Long weekend

First midterm= DONE! My friend brought me Trolli eggs after I took my test (I have been waiting to try these for ages!) and they were SO GOOD. My new gummy obsession. I came home to an empty house so I decided to go thrifting around Euclid. I figured that since I drove that far I'd might as well make use of it, so I went to 3 different thrift stores... in one day... Probably the most tiring day I have had in a while. I found a couple of really good pieces & at amazingly decent prices. I picked up a black blazer, oversize crochet top, vintage belt, acid wash jacket, high waisted electric blue bodycon skirt, & a silky black top. All for $10. SERIOUS. I couldn't believe it either. I totally forgot to take pictures of these things but I might add them up later. Anyway, after my 3 hour thrifting excursion I stopped by the local Barnes & Noble for a nice air-conditioned magazine sesh. Then went to Nana San for a very belated birthday present from a friend. Prices were pretty steep but the sushi was amazing! Extremely high quality and tried a whole bunch of things I usually wouldn't have.. quail egg shooters, shrimp boat, blue fin tuna, etc. &Finished the day off with late night happy hour at Tokyo Table!

Lotus root with spicy tuna

Quail egg shooters

Yellowtail, bluefin tuna, uni & I can't remember the roll

House special roll w/soft shell crab

Shrimp boat

Bonito

Sea bass marinated in sake

Unagi & anago sushi

Lychee mojito from Tokyo Table

Oh! And I forgot to post a couple days ago--lazy study day led to outdoor ramen picnic & personalized coffee mug chocolate cake:

Okay so these pictures totally do not do this cake justice, but it was good! You can find the recipe here. It really is sad, the things I will find to do to distract me from my studies.

Post-holidays

I hope you all had a good 4th of July weekend! I spent my Monday finishing up some work and last-minute baking for our family potluck. We literally whipped up Russian Tea Cakes in under 30 minutes! A little bit of a fail because we didn't allow enough cooling time, but I remade a new batch today and it turned out much better.

I personally haven't even tried these yet, but I've been told they're pretty good.. Mostly by my mother, whom I made these for because she is in love with anything overly buttery and sweet. As for me, I've decided to lead a healthier lifestyle than I am now (any lifestyle would be healthier than the one I am currently living) so I'm cutting down the meal portions and HOPEFULLY unnecessary junk. It's amazing what a Public Health textbook will inspire you to do. Anyways, I'm off to study for my midterm! xx

Garden babies

Okay, so I'm SUPER excited right now. I came home to find that my basil plant finally sprouted! Must be the inner grandma in me but I was so happy to see those little babies poking out of the soil heehe. I was truly convinced my little garden would be a lost cause so this was a pleasant surprise.

Aren't they adorable?!

But anyways, I had lunch with the family today at Coconut Bay. My mom dies for their all you can drink thai tea... Overkill!

Pad Kee Mow. SO delicious

Hot hot heat

Jess & I went thrifting for the first time today. Leaving the bubble for a Goodwill in Santa Ana was a pretty big environment change but definitely interesting. I tried explaining to Jess that thrifting is supposed to be a process but to no avail-we were in and out in about 30 minutes. Ended up picking up a few things that I'll be posting in a bit..then headed over to Old Town Pasadena. It. was. SO. incredibly hot today! Lovely weather but walking around in the heat was a litttle arduous. We ducked into J.Crew cause they were blasting the AC & ended up finding the besttt things. Saving money these days is just not possible... We ended up spending most of our time in Old Town Pas inside of J.Crew.. then headed over to Little Tokyo for dinner. Apparently today was outdoor open mic night so we entertained ourselves in the plaza circle for a goood minute...lol.

Thrifted striped blazer and drawstring bag

Thrifted vintage Levi jeans that I cut into shorts. Will definitely be wearing these all summer! Also found Theory dress pants & an Adidas tracksuit jacket that are not pictured. Not bad for the first time today

High waisted tie shorts in the cutest blue from J.Crew!

I know it's been crazy hot these days.. but I couldn't help buying this knit cardigan! I've been looking for a good knit for ages but haven't been able to find a good one until today. It'll be all right for summer nights... maybe... or just until Fall. Whatever, I love it!

Roll up capris in Cafe

Jessica Simpson heels I bought a couple of days ago. Crazy high yet surprisingly comfortable at the same time!

Nanban @ TOT. Waaay too heavy for the hot day... ended up finishing like 25% of this sadly :\

Warm & relaxed

Balboa island w/ the family for the first day of 4th of July weekend. Amazing weather to kick off the holidays & took a stroll along Marine Avenue. Super cute and small town-y feeling.

Lunch at Wilma's Patio

Burger w/ grilled onions, bleu cheese & avocado

Homemade cake pops. Took a bit over two hours for us to finish & kind of failed miserably. Can't really tell from the pictures fortunately!

Anyway, looking forward to thrifting for the first time tomorrow & exploring Pasadena/LA. Still can't fall asleep--4AM leaves me with approximately 5 hours of sleep to go. Regardless, much needed time away tomorrow!

HAPPY HOUR

Went to happy hour with one of my girlfriends today at Tokyo Table. OMG Roll & Passion fruit vodka soda = A-MAZing! First time trying vodka soda today & at $3.50 for happy hour, definitely worth getting. Red velvet roll, maybe not so much.
